President Ram Nath Kovind gave assent to the Jammu and Kashmir Official
Languages Bill, 2020, which was recently passed by the parliament.
This year United Nations World Tourism Organisation (UNWTO) has designated 2020
as the Year of Tourism and Rural Development.
इस वर्ष संयुक्त राष्ट्र विश्व पर्यटन संगठन (UNWTO) ने 2020 को पर्यटन और ग्रामीण विकास वर्ष के रूप में नामित किया है।
As part of the border tourism initiative, authorities in Jammu flagged off the first of its
kind open-roof tourist luxury bus with the slogan 'Chalo Suchetgarh Border'.

Karnataka unveiled its new Tourism policy, which aims to
generate over 10 lakh direct and indirect jobs in the sector
and Rs 5,000 crore in investments by 2025.

Key Highlights:
• According to the Prime Minister’s Office (PMO), the six projects include the up-gradation of the existing 27 MLD, construction of a 68
MLD STP at Jagjeetpur, in Haridwar, and construction of an 18 MLD STP at Sarai, in Haridwar.
• Prime Minister Modi will be inaugurating a 26 MLD STP at Lakkadghat, in Rishikesh. The Haridwar-Rishikesh zones contribute about 80
percent wastewater load into Ganga River, hence, the inauguration of these STPs will also play a significant role in keeping River Ganga
clean.
• The 7.5 MLD STP in Chandreshwar Nagar, will be the first four-storied Sewage Treatment Plant in India where the land availability was
converted into an opportunity. The STP has been constructed in less than 900 SQM area.
• PM Modi will also be inaugurating a 5 MLD STP at Chorpani and two STPs with capacities of 1 MLD and 0.01 MLD at Badrinath.
❖Inauguration of the first museum on Ganga: Ganga Avalokan
PM Modi will also be inaugurating ‘Ganga Avalokan’, the first museum on Ganga which has been dedicated to
showcase the biodiversity, culture, and rejuvenation activities done in the Ganga river. The museum is located at
Chandi Ghat, in Haridwar.
✓ The book ‘Rowing Down the Ganges’, which is co-published by the
Wildlife Institute of India and National Mission for Clean Ganga will
also be launched at the event. The colorful book is an attempt to merge
the biodiversity and culture of the River Ganga. The book
conceptualizes the story of Ganga as what one will see when one rows
down from Gaumukh, its origin to Ganga Sagar, the last point before
entering the sea.
Union Home Minister Amit Shah inaugurated the "Destination North East -2020"
through video conferencing.
