Indore won the coveted title of the Cleanest City of India in the national Swachh Survekshan 2020 awards.

• Swachh Survekshan (Cleanliness survey) is an annual survey 
• Swachh Survekshan 2020’, was completed in 28 days. 
• It witnessed registration of 1 crore 70 lakh citizens on Swachhata App. 
• It was launched on 2 October 2014. 
• Ministry of Housing and Urban Affairs- Hardeep Singh Puri, MoS (IC) 
• Ministry of Jal Shakti- Gajendra Singh Shekhawat. 
• The surveys are carried out by Quality Council of India.

Swachh Survekshan 2020 (Fifth edition) 
• Among the towns along the banks of river Ganga, Varanasi has been awarded the cleanest town award. 
• New Delhi has been awarded as the cleanest capital city in the country. 
• Chhattisgarh was awarded the first place in the states with over 100 cities. 
• Jharkhand bagged it for being the state in the category of states with less than 100 cities. 
• Jalandhar Cantonment Board was conferred the cleanest cantonment board in the country. 
• Ahmedabad in Gujarat was awarded for being the cleanest city with over 40 lakh population. 
• 129 awards were handed over to the top performing cities and States. 
• In the first edition of the survey, Mysuru had won the award for the cleanest city of India.

The criteria and weightages: 
• a) Municipal documentation - 45 per cent of the total 2,000 marks. 
• b) Citizen feedback – 30 per cent (450 + 150 marks) 
• c) Independent observation – 25 per cent (500 marks)
